Dedicated Hosting Explanation

When we talk about hosting servers, there are 3 main categories - shared web hosting web servers, VPS (private virtual servers) and dedicated servers. Shared hosting servers accommodate many clients and therefore the system resources per user account are restricted, VPS plans offer more server configuration freedom, but also influence other VPS web hosting servers on the hardware node if used unwisely, and dedicated servers give you the freedom to do everything you choose without meddling with anyone else.

Why would you need a dedicated server?

Dedicated servers are generally much more expensive than shared servers or VPS web hosting servers. Why would anyone, then, want to use them? The answer is rather simple. If your corporation has a content-heavy website, or simply has very explicit web server architecture requirements, the best option is a dedicated server. For someone who is prepared to invest in safety and stability, the greater price is of no concern. You are bestowed with root-level access and can utilize 100 percent of the physical server's resources without anyone else availing of these system resources and interfering with your online portals.

Hardware specifications

Most hosting distributors, including us at godadywebhost, offer several hardware configurations you can pick from in accordance with your needs. The configurations include different sorts of processors, a different number of cores, different RAM and hard drive sizes and different web traffic allowances. You can choose a web hosting CP, which is a convenient user interface if you wish to use the web hosting server for web hosting purposes solely and choose not to resort to an SSH terminal for all the modifications you will be making. We provide 3 sorts of hosting CP software - Hepsia, DirectAdmin and cPanel.

The web hosting CP of your choice

If you are a self-confident Linux OS user (our web hosting servers are powered by Linux or other Unix-based Operating Systems), you could administer your dedicated server via an SSH client exclusively. That, however, could be inconvenient, especially if you want to give complete root access to somebody else who has less technical expertise than yourself. This is why having Control Panel software pre-activated is a great idea. The Hepsia Control Panel graphical user interface that we provide does not offer complete root-level access and is chiefly suitable for someone who owns numerous web sites that absorb a lot of system resources, but would like to manage the online portals, databases and mailbox accounts via a user-friendly web hosting CP. The DirectAdmin and cPanel Control Panels, on the other hand, grant root-level access and offer 3 levels of access - root, reseller and user. If you plan to resell hosting plans rather than using the dedicated server only for yourself, you should choose one of these two.

Web server monitoring and backup services

Last but not least, there is the matter of monitoring the dedicated server and of backing it up. In the event of a problem with your server, like a non-responsive Apache or a downtime, it is useful to have some kind of monitoring system enabled. Here at godadywebhost the system administrators monitor all dedicated servers for ping timeouts, and, if you have a Managed Services package, they monitor the separate services on the dedicated server too. Backups are also a bonus feature - the company offers you data backups on our own backup web servers. You could pick a type of RAID that would permit you to keep the same data on 2 server hard disk drives as a protective measure in the event of a hard disk failure, or in case someone whom you have given complete root-level access erases something by accident.
